NA Standing Committee holds new year meeting

The law and decree building programme conducted by the National Assembly’s Standing Committee has met key requirements of perfecting institutions in service of the socialist-oriented market economy and building a socialist rule of law state.

Chairman of the National Assembly (NA)’s Law Committee Nguyen Van Thuan made an assessment at the opening session of the NA’s Standing Committee’s 37 th meeting in Hanoi on January 4.

Thuan reviewed the deployment of plan No. 900/UBTVQH11 on implementing the Politburo resolution 48-NQ/TW on Vietnam ’s law system building and perfecting strategy to 2010 and visions to 2020.

Noting important changes in the law making process, Thuan asserted that the enactment and execution of legal documents over the past time have helped spur socio-economic development and served national security and defence.

These legal documents have promptly served requirements of building a socialist rule of law state as well as the nation’s industrialisation, modernisation and global economic integration, Thuan said.

In the 2011-2020 period, the building and perfection of the legal system will focus on summing up the execution and examination of supplements and amendments to Constitution 1992, according to the legal committee chairman.

Additionally, the work will concentrate on organising and operating institutions in the political system in conformity with requirements of building a socialist rule of law state of the people, by the people and for the people, ensure human rights and citizens’ rights to democratic freedom. It will be expanded to all other fields.

According to NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, in the session, the NA Standing Committee will discuss the Independent Audit Law, the Cipher Law, the Capital Law, and the Vietnam Sea Law.

It will examine and approve a resolution on the election date and the establishment of an election council.
