Nguyen Phu Trong elected Party General Secretary

Nguyen Phu Trong was elected the General Secretary of the 11th Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC).

At the closing session of the 11th National Party Congress in Hanoi on January 19, on behalf of the Presidium of the congress, Truong Tan Sang reported on the results of the first session of the 11th CPVCC.

The CPVCC elected a 14-member Politburo. The following is the list of Politburo members:

1. Truong Tan Sang

2. Phung Quang Thanh

3. Nguyen Tan Dung

4. Nguyen Sinh Hung

5. Le Hong Anh

6. Le Thanh Hai

7. To Huy Rua

8. Nguyen Phu Trong

9. Pham Quang Nghi

10. Tran Dai Quang

11. Tong Thi Phong

12. Ngo Van Du

13. Dinh The Huynh

14. Nguyen Xuan Phuc

The CPVCC entrusted the Politburo to assign some Politburo members to join the CPVCC Secretariat. At the session, the CPVCC elected four members of the Secretariat, namely Ngo Xuan Lich, Truong Hoa Binh, Ha Thi Khiet and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

The CPVCC also elected a 21-member Commission for Inspection with Politburo member Ngo Van Du being its chairman.
