Luong Thanh Nghi, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson, stated this on May 26 in response to questions from reporters on Vietnam ’s reaction to the US ’s annual report on human rights, which includes remarks on the situation in Vietnam .

He said, “ Vietnam and US have seen a lot of progress in their relations recently and both countries continue to hold regular talks on issues of mutual concern, including human rights.

“Maintaining this dialogue with each other, in a frank but respectful manner has helped to increase understanding and develop relations between the two countries, which in the interest of both peoples.

“The US Department of State’s 2011 report on human rights around the world, while recognising many important achievements Vietnam has made in ensuring people’s human rights, regrettable still continues to make partial remarks based on inaccurate information about human rights issues in Vietnam .”
