On 19th January, Mr. Le Huu Loc, Vice chairman of Binh Dinh Province People’s Committee welcomed Mr. Peter Healy, Ho Chi Minh City-based New Zealand Consulate General to QuyNhonCity.

At the meeting, Mr. Peter Healy said New Zealand government will assist BinhDinhProvince with USD 50,000 to build a receiving-transmitting station, direction station and essential equipment as pilot equipments and facilities for 10 fishing boats of BinhDinhProvince. The assistance aims to help these boats contact easily one another and  with the mainland direct station. A New Zealand company who has an agent in Ha Noi will install and provide user’s guide to beneficiary fishers.

After the free pilot installation for the 10 boats, the New Zealand company will collect money (not much) for new installation from those who want to access the system.

Mr. Loc highly appreciated goodwill of New Zealand government and assigned director of Binh Dinh Aquiculture Department to do feasibility studies in coordination with other relevant bodies and then send them to New Zealand government for timely disbursement early this year. Binh Dinh has reportedly more than 6.000 fishing boats operating with out-of-date communication equipments.
