Binh Dinh province People’s Committee on May 26 held a meeting to summarize the 6-year development (2001-2006) of scientific and technological research in the agriculture and rural development sector. The standing vice-chairman of provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thien chaired the meeting.

According to the report at the meeting, scientific and technological research in fields of cultivation, breeding, forestry, and irrigation has had important advances. This has contributed to the improvement of the quality and productivity in these fields. Shift in mechanism has gone in the right direction with the internal mechanism by decreasing the production value in cultivation from 71,5% in 2001 to 61,5% in 2006 and increasing the production value in breeding from 25,9% in 2001 to 35,8% in 2006.

Systems of organizations in the scientific and technological research at State and provincial economic sectors have gradually been formed, perfected and operated effectively. The staff of researchers have been improved in both quality and quantity, contributing to the development of scientific and technological research.

Speaking at the meeting, Thien highly appreciated results gained from the research. He also noticed that the application of advances in science and technology was necessary as Vietnam integrated into WTO. Researchers, therefore, had to try their utmost in researching and applying advances for the production so that the productivity and effectiveness in the agricultural production could be improved.
