Alongside the development of eco-, cultural, and historical tourism, Binh Dinh also has potential to develop the tourism in combination with traditional trade villages. Binh Dinh newspaper reporter interview Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, vice-director of Ha Au hotel, a tour operator for trade villages, about this issue.

Q: Could you tell me why Hai Au hotel decided to operate trade village tours in Binh Dinh?

A: To enhance the competition and contribute to the development of Binh Dinh tourism, Hai Au hotel is going to develop package tours. We are concerned with the exploration of the tourism potential in Binh Dinh to attract domestic and foreign tourists to Binh Dinh.

Trade village tourism is one of the most attractive kinds of tourism, particularly for foreign tourists. Moreover, this is an advantage of Binh Dinh tourism. We are, therefore, going to operate trade village tours to diversify the programme.

Q: What do you think of the potential for the development of Binh Dinh tourism?

A: Binh Dinh has many traditional trade villages, specializing in potteries, knitting, casting, conical hat, and girdle cake. These villages situate at other destinations in Binh Dinh, which is very convenient for tour operators to carry out trade village tours. On the other hand, each village has its own distinctive features making tours more attractive.

Besides, Binh Dinh province People’s Committee approved functional bodies to focus on developing traditional trade villages, producing souvenirs. This will create favourable conditions for travel agencies to operate tours to Binh Dinh.

Q: In your opinion, what are drawbacks for the trade village tourism in Binh Dinh?

A: According to our preliminary studies, due to markets and technologies, most trade villages have unpromptedly developed. Apart from this, the lack of coordination among relevant bodies in planning the trade village tourism and other difficulties also make trade villages disperse.

The fluctuation of the market and difficulties in the competition and the consumption of goods haven’t created favourable conditions for the tourism. Besides, such factors as the infrastructure and environment aren’t paid much attention to. On the other hand, because activities of the trade village tourism haven’t been strongly developed, many villagers don’t realized its practical effectiveness.

Q: How will Hai Au travel agency build the trade village tours and what will functional bodies be able to support?

A: Not only Hai Au travel agency but other tour operators will build trade village tours to explore their history, culture, and distinctive features. In this type of tourism, tourists will also be able to make products by themselves when visiting these villages. Functional bodies, local authorities and travel agencies should set up services to diversify this type of tourism.

We think that this will be really attractive and effective if tourism projects have a great concern for long-term strategies. Alongside this, it’s necessary to promote the advertisement and trademark building.
