Vice Chairwoman of Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh on November 20 received the delegation of Czech Republic and Office 33 in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
They talked about the project on detoxicating and remediating dioxin-contaminated hotspots in Phu Cat airport and another project on welfare services for suspectedly toxic chemicals-contaminated local residents.
The Czech Republic delegation and Office 33 have gone to study some dioxin-contaminated hotspots and neighboring areas in Phu Cat airport, aiming to help Vietnam in ensuring safe land use and environmental remediation in and around these hotspots.
Vice director of provincial Natural Resources and Environment Le Minh Luan briefed on the issue and chemical toxic consequences in Binh Dinh, asking the delegation to implement the detoxication and environmental remediation in Phu Cat airport and neighboring areas in Districts of An Nhon and Phu Cat.
He also asked the support for toxic chemicals-contaminated victims and studies on chemical toxic consequences on human and environment in Binh Dinh.
The working visit aimed to collect more information to strengthen the implementation of the project in the coming time, said Ms Monika Lidicka, a member of Czech Development Agency (CDA). It will sponsor US$1 million for the project entitled “Studying and Environmental Remediation in Phu Cat airport” implemented from 2009-11.
CDA also planned to provide US$800,000 for the project on supporting suspectedly toxic chemicals-contaminated local residents by 2010.
Binh thanked the delegation for their support, promising to steer relevant bodies to soon prepare a proposal.
