US$33,950 sponsored for project of blind decrease

Binh Dinh Province People’s Committee has promulgated the Decision No 755/QD-CTUBND on approving the project of sustainable solution for the blind decrease and promotion for the community ophthalmology aided by Helen Keller International Organisation in Vietnam.

The project has been conducted for three years (from April 4, 2008 to May 2010). The first phase plans to be carried out from April to August 2008 with the capital of US$33,950. It aims to improve the program for the ophthalmology training in the community, carry out the cataract operation for 243 poor patients.

According to the statistics released by Central Ophthalmology Hospital in 2007, the blind people who are over 50 in Binh Dinh accounted for 19.3 percent of the population. The main causes are the cataract and cornea inflammation.
