Construction of 108 meter-high statue of Buddha kicked off

The Executive Board of Binh Dinh Province Buddhist Sangha on August 16 held a kick-off ceremony on the construction of statue of Buddha on Phuong Phi mountain of Linh Phong pagoda in Phu Cat District.

Dignitaries of Binh Dinh Province Buddhist Sangha, provincial leaders, and local authorities attended the ceremony.

The statue of Buddha will have the height of 108 meters from the Buddha’s throne, locating on Phuong Phi mountain.

It is under the spiritual and tourism complex sponsored by Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam and other groups.

The project plans to be carried out within five years (2008-2013). Statues of Duc The Ton, 18 Arhats, and 12 animal designations will be built in the first three years. Other components, including restaurants, helicopter landing field, and telphers will be built in the next two years.
