A ceremony was held in Quy Nhon on November 23, marking the 63rd founding anniversary of Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) Society. The first-grade labour medal was also awarded to the province’s Red Cross on the occasion.
Chairman of Binh Dinh Front Fatherland Committee cum head of provincial Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization Board Nguyen Dinh Thanh and Vice Chairwoman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh attended the ceremony.
A speech delivered at the ceremony said late President Ho Chi Minh set up VRC to uphold the national tradition of humanity. VRC has followed his teachings in the past 63 years.
Binh Dinh Red Cross has established its affiliates across the province since it was set up 33 years ago. It aided scores of poor people, disabled people, disaster victims, and disadvantaged families with relief aid, health care, and blood donation.
Also, it has raised funds from NGOs, domestic bodies, and individuals, aiming to help people in Binh Dinh overcome difficulties.
Its affiliates have called for the relief aid worth over VND10 billion to help storm victims when the Ketsana and Mirinae storms hit the province this year.
Binh Dinh Red Cross was honored with many awards thanks to its achievements in the past years.
At the meeting, the province’s Red Cross was awarded the first-grade Labour Medal for its contributions in five years, from 2003 to 2007.
