US-based NGO PATH will continue help the central province of Binh Dinh carry out measures to prevent diarrhea, a PATH representative said in a meeting with Binh Dinh People’s Committee yesterday.

PATH selected Binh Dinh to implement the “Strengthening diarrhea prevention in Vietnam” program from September, 2009 to December, 2009.

The program aims to enhance the management capacity and monitoring system in diarrhea prevention. It also focuses on the production and use of oresol (Oral Rehydratation Solution) and zinc in preventing diarrhea and raises the community’s awareness of diarrhea prevention.

According to the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute’s mid-term review, components of the program have been carried out as planned, said the PATH representative. PATH vowed to offer US$34,000 and technical assistance to Binh Dinh, helping the province carry out measures against diarrhea.

At the meeting, provincial Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh suggested the program should involve more beneficiaries, aiming to attract women and medical workers in far and remote areas.
