Workshop discusses coconut sector
14:3', 7/10/ 2010 (GMT+7)

A workshop on the development of the coconut sector was held in Binh Duong town, Phu My district yesterday.

The province’s management unit for the sustainable rural livelihood project held the event, aiming to help coconut growers share experiences in coconut-related issues in Binh Dinh.

Accordingly, the area for the coconut-palm growing has reduced to 10,502 ha across the province, a decrease of 924 ha against 2005.

All participants agreed it is hard-wing insects, out-of-date technologies, and unstable output that have badly affected the potential of coconut palms.

The functional bodies, local authorities, and people must strengthen the insect prevention and the selection of coconut palms giving high yields, according to experts.

The sustainable rural livelihood project will offer capital and new technology, helping improve the production.
