The workshop on evaluating the effect of climate change on the community in Phuoc Thuan commune, Tuy Phuoc district was jointly held by Binh Dinh Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Australian Foundation for the Peoples of Asia and the Pacific (AFAP) in Quy Nhon on November 3.

According to the reports presented at the workshop, the experts of AFAP and Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI) have coordinated with DoNRE to carry out studies on the effect of climate change in Phuoc Thuan since early last year.

The studies stated that the commune is most frequently hit by storms, flood, and drought. The experts set some specific goals at each hamlet in Phuoc Thuan, such as improving the community’s life, supplying fresh water, and building irrigation works.

They also asked the local authorities to raise the locals’ awareness of climate change, improve the capacity for urgent rescue, build the warning system and upgrade the dyke system.
