Provincial leader pays working visit to Van Canh

After having inspected landslides at road connecting Ca Bung village, Canh Thuan commune; visited and offered gifts to local people there, a working delegation of Binh Dinh Party Committee led by its Secretary, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thien had a meeting with leaders of Van Canh district on repairing damages and losses caused by recent floods.

According to reports by Van Canh district, the floods left 10 houses damaged, 87.7 ha of rice and more than 135 ha of manioc and sugar cane destroyed, 2,700kg of rice seed rotten, 62.58 ha of arable land silted up, 116 heads of cattle dead. The floods also blew off 2km of Ha Thanh dyke, devastated a water inlet sluice, a spillway and1.5km of irrigation canal. Many parts of the road system connecting Van Canh town to Canh Lien commune suffered heavy landslides. At Doc Dai, near office of Canh Lien People’s Committee, the road was blocked. Stranded local people were facing distress caused by the floods. 3,212 households with total population of 13,327 were suffering hunger. Total damages were estimated over VND 14.1 billion.

Van Canh district asked the provincial government to provide the locality with rice and rice seed as relief aid; to assist the local people in the house repairing, the district in the provincial road No. 638 upgrading and construction of a solid waste treatment site at the locality, etc.

The Secretary, Chairman Nguyen Van Thien suggested that Van Canh should promote its inner force to make good the damages and losses, help the local people resume their normal lives and production. In the short term, the district should mobilize its human force to restore the silted arable land and canal, temporarily repair the damaged road. Binh Dinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development would make report on amount of the damaged rice seed, needy veterinary medicine and the total area of silted arable land to the provincial People’s Committee for future assistance. Binh Dinh Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs should cooperate with the district government to identify flood-hit victims in hunger or suffering homeless so that the provincial government would help, letting nobody suffer hunger. Binh Dinh Department of Transportation would repair the damaged road No. 638 and cooperate with the district government to inspect the landslide situation at the Canh Thuan-Canh Lien road, and then propose repairing solutions.
