Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thien held a meeting with the forest products association of Binh Dinh (FPA Binh Dinh) on March 3.

The province’s timber sector has faced many difficulties, according to the reports at the meeting. The wood export turnover reached US$174 million in 2009, a decrease of 30.2 percent against the previous year.

Participants pointed out some main reasons, including the global economic recession, outdoor furniture with low added value, and the shortage of raw materials and highly qualified manpower.

At the meeting, Thien steered the province’s economic zone authority to coordinate with relevant bodies, businesses, and FPA Binh Dinh to work out measures for the sustainable development of the wood sector.
