National week for worksite safety, hygiene and fire, explosion prevention launched

The national week for worksite safety, hygiene and fire, and explosion prevention was launched in Quy Nhon city yesterday (Mar.14).

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh Province Ho Quoc Dung and representatives of relevant bodies attended the ceremony.

Vice Chairman Dung emphasized that all sectors, localities and businesses, especially employers and employees, should raise the awareness of and responsibility in the issue to minimise physical and material losses, reduce labour accidents, occupational diseases, fires and explosions and develop a labour safety culture at workplaces.

He asked the sectors, localities and mass organisations to promote information dissemination, organise training and guide the implementation of regulations on the issue to businesses and workers.

Last year saw 62 fires and 96 labour accidents, killing 8 people and injuring 96 others across the province. Total losses were 5.2 billion VND.

Also, on the occasion, certificates of merits were presented to 8 teams and 7 individuals for their outstanding achievements in labour safety, hygiene and fire, and explosion in 2009.
