The Australian Government will fund two small-scale development projects in Binh Dinh Province, according to Graeme Swift, Australian Consul-General in HCMC.

The Direct Aid Program (DAP), an Australian Government-funded organization that provides flexible grants to alleviate humanitarian hardship, will fund the A$20,000 overseas development assistance (ODA) grant. The program aims to assist low-income communities in Vietnam’s southern provinces.

The two projects will provide clean water to poor people living in An Nhon district and public housing for the disabled, children and the elderly in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh Province.

“We are very pleased to support the longstanding work of provincial People’s Committees, local and international non-government organizations, community organizations, as well as local hospitals and schools in assisting low-income and disadvantaged communities,” Swift said.

He added that DAP is an impressive example of the cooperation that can develop from the strong people-to-people links that exist between Vietnam and Australia.
