The Institute of Malariology, Parastology and Entomology Quy Nhon, the Institute of Biotechnology, and Belgium-based Institute of Tropical Medicine has built a long-term cooperation project on studying and preventing the giant liver fluke in the central and Central Highlands regions.

The project funded by the Belgian Government is expected to be implemented within four years, from 2011-2015.

Vietnamese and Belgian experts have shared experiences and information on the giant liver fluke in Vietnam.

The project will pay special attention to the reason why the giant liver fluke is widely spread in seven provinces of Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Gia Lai, its adaptation to human body, and some other issues.
