Agricultural production gains encouraging results

After the 10-year (2001-2010) implementation of economic structure transformation, the Binh Dinh’s agricultural production has reached high growth rate, stated Binh Dinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The transformation had a wholesome tendency from 2001-10, in which the value of farming production declined from 71.5-56.95 percent while the value of breeding production increased from 25.9 - 40.3 percent and the value of service from 2.6 - to 2.8 percent.

Productivity of crops, livestock and aquaculture gained fairly high surge compared to 2001. Rice productivity in 2009 achieved 53.1quintal per hectare, 25.2 percent higher than 2001; corn productivity reached 49.1 quintal per hectare, a 36.8 percent increase; manioc productivity expanded to 223.8 quintal per hectare, a 120 percent increase; peanut productivity 26.6 quintal per hectare, 72.7 percent higher; soya bean productivity got 16.4 quintal per hectare, a 6.5 percent rise.

The transformation also created favourable conditions for agricultural service development. Mechanical tillage service accounted for 93 percent, mechanical rice sowing service made up 64 percent, mechanical harvest service made up 63 percent, rice plucking and husking service accounted for 90 percent; irrigation service provided waters for 87 percent of cultivated area.
