“Mobilize as many available sources as possible to fight against the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), speed up surveillance and communication campaigns to raise people’s awareness of it are important tasks in the disease prevention and control from now till the end of this year”, said Doctor Nguyen Van Cang, Director of Binh Dinh Department of Health at a regular meeting on epidemic disease prevention and control on October 4.
The director also suggested that chiefs of health agencies at district and city levels should take more responsibilities as advisors for local governments at all levels against the HFMD prevention and treatment, against correction of shortcomings in monitoring the HFMD occurrences and infected cases treatment, against inter-agency cooperation for effective disease prevention and control.
The HFMD is increasingly spreading with complicated developments at all 11 districts and city in the province. By late October 3, there were 542 infected cases reported in Binh Dinh and 2 dead cases at Quy Nhon city and Phu Cat district. Among 41 samples that having test results, 37 samples were positive for enterovirus type 71 (EV71), 2 samples tested positive for enterovirus (EV) and 2 samples tested positive for coxsackievirus A type 16 (CVA-16).
