Deputy Head of the Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs of the central province of Binh Dinh, Phan Nhu Hai, said that in 2011 the province would invest over VND 103.8 billion for socio-economic development in three mountainous districts.
The money will be used in the development of the infrastructure (VND 80 billion) and production assistance for the poor (VND 20.8 billion).
By the end of 2010, Binh Dinh province had 59 disadvantaged villages in 17 communes.
From 2006 to 2010, together with national target programs and poverty reduction projects, Binh Dinh province invested in the building of 200 infrastructure and technical construction projects and assisted 14,000 families to increase production capacity, with an amount of nearly VND 553.5 billion.
Through program 135 on socio-economic development in extremely disadvantaged ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous communes, the province has assisted many poor families with new styles of production, seeds, materials, production tools and market information; 100 percent of communes having medical stations; and 90 percent of villages accessing electricity; 80 percent of the population having safe water. This helps to reduce the poverty rate by 4.9 percent each year on average.
