A volunteer group for sea turtle protection has just been established under co-operation between Binh Dinh Department of Aquatic Resource Protection and Nhon Hai commune People’s Committee (Quy Nhon city).

The group which whose members are voluntary local fishermen undertakes to perform communication campaigns on raising local people’s awareness of the sea turtle protection, to encourage practical action of the marine animal protection in the local people, to create places for the turtles to lay eggs at Hon Kho island, etc.

With a wide range of corals and reefs, territorial waters at Nhon Hai is a perfect habitat for various marine animals, including the sea turtles.

Yet, their lives are endangered by garbage and sewages from titanium exploitation businesses or from lobster and sweet snail farms.

More alarmingly, many unaware people catch the sea turtles or dig out their eggs for sale, exposing them to higher risks of extinction.
