Quy Nhon has now 2,491 households with 9,756 people living at slum houses in areas near coasts, lagoons, rivers, mountains and low lands which are prone to natural disasters such as storms, floods, flood-tides and tsunamis, says the city’s Flood and Storm, Search and Rescue Board.

The municipal committee ordered its grass roots level offices to work out plans of evacuation and resettlement for the potential affected households in case of emergency; set up danger warning signs at landslide prone areas, at heavy flooded roads with swift flows; review the city’s urban planning and management, drawing out building corridors of residential establishments near the rivers, and the coasts to minimize possible damages caused by the natural disasters, even the tsunamis.
