A lot of activities within framework of a communication campaign to raise awareness of solid waste management have been carried out in Hoai Nhon district, Binh Dinh province, says the provincial Project Management Unit (PPMU) of the Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Project in Binh Dinh.
District-level collaborator group, grassroots level environmental campaigner groups, environmental teacher groups in schools have been established. Action plans to raise people’s awareness of the solid waste management in communities and schools have been mapped out and implemented. At Bong Son town, the communication campaign has been done via various channels: radio broadcasting, roving events of propaganda, marches on main roads of the town. At Bong Son Secondary School and Bong Son Primary School, seminars on harms of the solid wastes to the environment and human lives have been held. Communication campaign on the solid waste’s adverse effects has been integrated into extra-curricular classes, drawing contests on environment protection and other contests for school students.
