Mooncake market kicks off early, 15-30 pct price rise

Customers are considering their buy of mooncakes at a stall along Phan Boi Chau street, Quy Nhon city.

This year’s mooncake market kicked off 1 week earlier than usual, say mooncake sellers. Last year, not until the 20th day of the 7th lunar month, did the mooncake sellers start to have the mooncakes in store for the sale season. This year, they started the business earlier with expectation of boosting demand and avoiding end-of-season sale.

The mooncakes aren’t much different to previous years in term of designs and types but prices increase by 15-30 percent. Mooncake makers say the rise is reasonable because prices of input materials go up by 35-40 percent in comparison to last year.
