Binh Dinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is receiving 280 satellite receivers using Movimar satellite observation technologies to equip 280 offshore fishing boat fleets, says Mr. Nguyen Huu Hao, director of the department.

This is part of a project funded by France’s ODA. The project aims to install the Movimar satellite system for fishermen in all coastal provinces and municipalities of Vietnam. Of the project’s 14.343-million-EUR-worth total budget, the French side contributes 13.9 million EUR. Duration of the project is 3 years (2011-2013).

The installation of the Movimar satellite system enables the province to correctly monitor operation of the fishing boats in offshore waters, help the fishermen in their marine resource exploration with highest economic values as well as to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty over its territorial waters.

The Movimar technologies also help check-point stations timely inform the fishermen of bad weather; enables the fishermen find rich fishing grounds.

Moreover, Binh Dinh aquacultural agencies equip 237 Single Side Band (SSB) receivers for inshore fishing boats to improve the communication with the fishermen.
