Programs for poor people prove effective

A meeting was held in Quy Nhon on Aug. 24, reviewing the implementation of the target program on poverty reduction, the Resolution No.30a in poor districts, and Decision No.176/QD-TTg on housing for poor households.

After five years of implementing the target program, the rate of poor households in Binh Dinh reduce by 7.23 percent in 2010 from 19.66 percent in 2006 while the rate of unemployment in urban area saw a reduction of 4 percent last year.

The implementation of the Government’s resolution No.30a also reaped considerable results. Three districts of Vinh Thanh, Van Canh, and An Lao received a total of VND135 billion during two years (2009-2010) to build 84 items, let alone VND25.6 billion to support production.

Under the Decision No.167, there were 3,643 poor households receiving accommodations until January, 2011. In 2009, about 1,989 houses were built in three mountainous districts and the next year saw 1,654 new houses.

At the meeting, the participants discussed the issues, aiming to evaluate the results and any possible shortcomings.
