Fishermen assisted in lessening impacts natural disasters at sea

With the aim at overcoming natural disasters at sea and lessening their possible impacts in the coming stormy season,  Binh Dinh Department of Information and Communications and Quy Nhon Station for Coastal Information co-organized a meeting on Storm and Flood Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue, Communication Assurance for fishermen from 3 districts of Dong Da, Tran Phu and Hai Cang (Quy Nhon city) on September 13.

At the meeting, the fishermen were provided with the knowledge of the storm and flood prevention and control, search and rescue; regulations of technological safety and equipments for ships; communication network of Vietnam Coastal Information and how to use the communication lines in case of emergency at sea; rules and procedures of using wireless electric frequencies.

The fishermen were also offered the basic and necessary materials for their trips, such as maps of storm and tropical low pressure movement monitoring, maps of nationwide shelters from the storms, manuals of using marine technical tools and equipments, booklets on how to identify the natural disasters and ways to response to them, lessening the potential damages.

Nearly 3,000 fish boats in Binh Dinh are communicating via the wireless electric frequencies.
