Binh Dinh is among the 34 provinces to implement plan of eliminating malaria in 2012 as in the National Project on Malaria Prevention and Control.

The plan is part of National Strategy on Malaria Prevention and Control in Vietnam, phase 2011-2020 with vision to 2030. The strategy aims to keep the rate of malaria infected people under 0.15/1,000; mortality rate under 0.02/100,000; no province has to fight the disease in the intense stage of the project; 40 provinces prevent re-occurrence of the disease; 15 provinces are in elimination stage of the disease and 8 provinces are in pre-elimination stage of the malaria in 2012.

World Health Organization warns countries with malaria to implement their national strategies of the malaria prevention and control. Areas where are in intense fight against the disease move to pre-elimination stage as their rates of positive plasmodium parasites are under 5%. Those areas with rates of positive parasites under 1/1,000 people should step to elimination stage. Length of the stages is indefinite.
