According to the Binh Dinh Provincial Border Guard Command, on August 17th, the SAR 413 approached the fishing boat, the BD-96286-TS, which had an accident in the Binh Dinh’s waters. The SAR413 planned to take the boat and its 7-member crew to the Song Tu Tay Island in Truong Sa (Spratly) District in Khanh Hoa.

Earlier, on August 15th, the propeller of the BD-96286-TS, steered by fisherman Nguyen Van Lim (1971, in Hoai Hai Commune, Hoai Nhon District, Binh Dinh Province), was broken and the boat began adrift at about 150 nautical miles offshore.

Upon receiving the news, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Area 3 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau instructed the SAR 413 to rescue the boat and its crew.
