The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) of central Binh Dinh province held its 6th congress for the 2007-2012 term on September 29.
Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Province People’s Committee, Le Huu Loc; President of provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Truong Dinh Tan; Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of VBS Central Committee, Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang; and over 300 dignitaries and Buddhist followers attended the congress.
Over the past five years, Binh Dinh VBS effectively conducted many Buddhist and charitable activities. Particularly, provincial followers raised 6 tons of rice and more than VND43 million for the old and disadvantaged children in 2007.
The congress said that between the 2007-2012 term, there would be a focus on the function of the Executive Council and coordination with local authorities to create the unity.
Speaking at the congress, Vice Chairman Loc expressed the hope that Binh Dinh VBS would continue implementing religious tasks, contributing to the national unity, in line with the Buddhist charter “Dharma – Nation – Socialism”.
Also, at the congress, 39 dignitaries were elected for the new Executive Council. Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon was again elected head of Executive Council of Binh Dinh VBS.
