Binh Dinh: ECEC programme signed
16:10', 20/6/ 2007 (GMT+7)

Binh Dinh province People’s Committee on June 19 held a signing ceremony for the early childhood care and education” (ECCE) programme in Binh Dinh at the head office of the provincial People’s Committee. The ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of New Zealand in Vietnam, James Kember, the permanent Deputy province Committee Secretary, Pham Van Thanh, Vice-chairwoman of Binh Dinh province People’s Committee-cum-head of project management board, Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, representatives of Ministry of Education and Training, and related departments and agencies attented the meeting.

ECCE programme in Binh Dinh, which was approved by the Prime Minister on May 22, 2007, is sponsored by the New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID). The programme aims at strengthening care and education for early childhood in disadvantaged, remote, isolated, and ethnic minority areas to complete the national educational action plan for people.

The programme will enhance the awareness of ECCE for all management levels and parents by propagandizing throughout the province and provide material facilities for kindergartens in 58 poor communes in the province with the total investment capital of nearly VND53 bln (over US$3.3 mln) (in which NZAID’s non-refundable capital is over VND32 bln ($2 mln) and the rest is the province’s corresponding capital).

*The provincial People’s Committee in the afternoon June 19 held a conference on initiating the ECCE project with the participation of the NZAID’s first Secretary in management, John Egan, the project management board, related departments and agencies, and leaders of the city and districts, and schools.

*On this occasion, on June 19 Mr. James Kember handed the chairman of Binh Dinh Red Cross, Dao Duy Chap, the agreement letter of the New Zealand Government on supporting the healthcare programme for ethnic minorities in Vinh Thanh commune (Vinh Thanh district), Bok Toi (Hoai An district) and An Vinh (An Lao district) with sum of roughly VND40 mln ($25,000).
