Two outstanding students in entrance exams
19:32', 16/8/ 2007 (GMT+7)

Quy Nhon had two students achieving the highest scores in the 2007 university entrance exams, that is, Dao Thi Kieu Nhi, student of Quoc Hoc high school (Quy Nhon city) and Tran Thanh Binh, student of Le Quy Don gifted high school.

Nhi and her family weren’t surprised with the fact that she achieved the highest score in the entrance exam for Ho Chi Minh City-based University of Banking because she had accurately predict her scores (9 for mathematics, 10 for physics, and 10 for chemistry) after finishing her tests; moreover, she also said that her scores in the exam for HCM City-based University of Medicine and Pharmacy had been 29.5 (10 for biology, 10 for mathematics, and 9.5 for chemistry).

Her grandmother said that because she was very confident, the family had had a party to congratulate her before the results were announced. After coming back from the exams, she predicted that her scores wouldn’t be below 29, which made us a little doubtful. “This year’s tests are multiple-choice ones, so it’s not difficult to predict the scores,” said Nhi.

Nhi’s family is not rich; moreover her parents have to work far from home. The small garret of the house is the place where she studies and sleeps. During her twelve years at high school, she always was the best student and awarded many prizes and scholarships. To study well, in her opinion, self-studying skill is very necessary. Besides, students should listen to teachers’ lectures in class and, then, do exercises at home. If not understand anything, ask teachers.

At the end of the 12th grade, her uncle, a teacher of Maths in QuyNhonUniversity, tutored her for several months. Perhaps her hardest time was before the high school graduation exam because there were many subjects that needed to be reviewed, but Nhi always went to bed before midnight.

Nhi said that she would study at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy as her grandmother’s wish.

* Tran Thanh Binh chose field by himself

Tran Thanh Binh is one of three students achieving the highest scores (28.5) in the exams for HCMC-based University of Agriculture and Forestry. His results are as follows: 9 for biology, 10 for mathematics, and 9.5 for chemistry.

After knowing the results from University of Agriculture and Forestry for several days, his exam results for the University of Technology in HCM City was announced with the total score of 27 (8.75 for mathematics, 9.75 for physics, and 9 for chemistry).

His conditions for studying is quite convenient because his parents are teachers of Trung Vuong high school and there are only two children in the family. Although his father is a teacher of mathematics, he seldom asks him about the mathematics. His sister has just graduated from QuyNhonUniversity with the highest score. Binh decided to choose the field of technology because, as he said, the technology was more suitable to his characteristics. “I will study in the field of electrics of the University of Technology,” he added.

Talking about her son’s achievement, Binh’s mother said, “perhaps the tradition of the family partly affects my children. When they was in their childhood, I asked them to practice the self-studying skill and they now study with that skill.”

Although being a son, Binh sometimes helps his mother in the housework. He spends his free time on playing football, and reading books.
