The appearance of factories in Binh Dinh and neighboring provinces has made a great demand on labor force, especially highly-skilled workers.

Supply and demand – inadequate
Recently, many enterprises have visited job introduction and vocational training center to recruit employees, particularly highly-skilled ones. Some enterprises have even asked centers to train workers according to their requirements.
“Most trainees have stable jobs after completing a training course. The number of trainees in garment and mechanics industries hasn’t met enterprises’ demands,” said head of the job introduction and vocational training center’s training department under Binh Dinh Labor Union, Huynh Si Hung.
Quy Nhon Vocational College is a reliable supplier of highly-skilled workers for domestic and foreign enterprises. The annual graduated trainees can only meet 50% of demands. Many enterprises directly came to the college to recruit employees. The college wants to expand the training scale, but this hasn’t been done owing to not only the limited quota but the infrastructure, according to vice-director of Quy Nhon Vocational College, Ngo Xuan Thuy.
We sometimes lacked highly-skilled workers but still had to recruit unqualified employees, said an owner of a Quang Trung Industrial Zone-based mechanics enterprise.
The shortage of worker, especially highly-qualified ones is partly because there are not many people applying for vocational training college or centers. Many of young people don’t want to attend at vocational schools although vocational students have more chances to apply for a job than those who graduate from universities.
Be active in vocational training
To meet the demand of highly-skilled workers, some enterprises actively cooperated with job introduction and vocational training centers in Binh Dinh. Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Cooperation, for example, followed this way to train nearly 500 workers and 1,000 newly ones will be trained each year from 2008 in Binh Dinh to provide employees for shipbuilding industry factories in Dung Quat (Quang Ngai province), Da Nang, and Nhon Hoi.
Binh Dinh also built a vocational training project for the 2006-2010 period, keeping up with the development of Binh Dinh’s industrial sectors and industrial zones and Nhon Hoi Economic Zone.
The training for highly-skilled labor force hasn’t been promoted even though Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, when being fully operational, will surely require scores of highly-skilled workers.
