VIETNAM ENTREPRENEURS DAY (Oct.13):
Women entrepreneurs - many burdens on shoulders
20:45', 12/10/ 2008 (GMT+7)

Binh Dinh now has nearly 18,000 enterprises, both large and small. The number of women entrepreneurs owing these accounts for 35 percent. They have considerably contributed to the socio-economic development in Binh Dinh. At home, they still play the role as mothers and wives, but at work, they are women entrepreneurs.

1. Since the first Binh Dinh’s women entrepreneurs club was established in March, 2004, there have been 12 similar clubs set up in 7 Districts so far.

Some, such as Districts of Phu My and Tuy Phuoc, include 2-3 clubs with 500 women entrepreneurs involved.

During the past years, the club has much contributed to charitable activities, helping orphans and the poor overcome difficulties. After the market fire in late 2006, for example, its members raised money to help female small traders.

Women entrepreneurs also participated in the relief effort when floods happened in late 2007. The club aided a single parent in building a house this year.

2. Joining the club, women entrepreneurs also have chances to share experiences, find their partners, and widen their social knowledge.

“Thanks to the club, I’ve gone into partnership with the others and separated myself from work to join social activities,” said one of its members.

A women entrepreneurs’ club in Tuy Phuoc District always sponsors competitions and helps women who are householders.

3. Many women entrepreneurs said that they worked as businesswomen by a strange twist of fate. Some did business to support their families and their husbands’ younger brothers and sisters. At first, they were small traders but then became owners of small or large scaled enterprises. The others left their jobs at administrative agencies to help their husbands do business.

It’s not easy for them to finish two roles, at home and at work. Only when women entrepreneurs have a happy family, can they be considered as successful women entrepreneurs. They, therefore, have to well arrange to do housework and business.

4. A meeting was held on October 9 on the occasion of Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day (Oct.13) with the participation of many women entrepreneurs in Binh Dinh and the others.

Enterprises were facing many difficulties caused by the world economic recession. Women entrepreneurs must change business strategies to meet the market demand, said Dong Thi Anh, head of the club.

Provincial Vice Chairwoman Binh emphasized the role of women entrepreneurs in Binh Dinh’s development in the past few years.

She hoped that clubs will continue becoming a “home” for women entrepreneurs, helping them share experiences and go into partnership with other businesswomen.
