* Involve remarkable changes
Quy Nhon city’s socio-economic situation has considerably changed in the renovation process. The development speed gains an increase of 15% per year averagely.
At present, the ratio of industry and construction accounts for 49%, trade and services 45%, and agriculture sector 6% only.
The infrastructure has been quickly built to attract investors during the past few years. Alongside Phu Tai and Long My industrial clusters, two newly-built ones, Nhon Binh and Quang Trung, have fully operated, contributing to the city’s industrial growth.
In the first nine months of 2008, Quy Nhon city’s industrial production value reached over 2,700 billion VND, a rise of 16% over 2007.
Services also play a core role in the city’s economy. Currently, the total retail and services turnover records at nearly 7,000 billion VND each year.
The number of hotels and tourism services have been strongly invested, better meeting tourists’ demands. The tourism turnover was up 16% over 2007 with 18 billion VND in 2008.
* Focus on urban renewal
Alongside the economic development, the urban renewal has also been focused in the past few years. Many roads have been newly built or upgraded as the city was recognized as the second-grade urban.
Nhon Hoi Bridge is, for example, a typical example. It connects Quy Nhon city and Phuong Mai peninsula where Nhon Hoi Economic Zone is located.
It also brings many benefits to the local people who are living on the peninsula. Also, Xuan Dieu street is another remarkable project, connecting other streets to create a nice-looking city.
With the aim of becoming a tourism city in the future, Quy Nhon city has more and more luxury hotels and office buildings.
* Aim to become first-grade urban
Under Quy Nhon city’s socio-economic development orientation, the industrialization and modernization process will be strengthened, according to Chairman of Quy Nhon city People’s Committee Thai Ngoc Bich.
The competitiveness of industrial products will be improved together with the application of advanced technologies, he added. Other issues, such as job, poverty reduction, and living-standard improvement will also be focused.
Quy Nhon city is aimed to become the first-grade urban by 2020, becoming a southern hub of the Central key economic region.
Quy Nhon city now focuses on building the infrastructure to reach the target. Bui Thi Xuan industrial cluster is expected to be built in the future.
Transportation projects will be carried out to connect the Quy Nhon city and new areas, such as Suoi Trau – Vung Chua and Wards of Tran Quang Dieu, Bui Thi Xuan, Long My, and Nhon Binh.
Quy Nhon city has the potential for growth.
With the favorable geographical location, particularly the highway No 19 connecting Quy Nhon city and the Central Highlands, the northeastern of Cambodia, the southern of Laos, and Thailand, Quy Nhon has many advantages to grow.
It is expected to become a modern and developed city in the near future thanks to many favorable conditions.
