Binh Dinh People’s Committee, provincial Department of Education and Training (DOET), and Military Telecom Corporation – Binh Dinh Branch (Viettel Binh Dinh) held an opening ceremony for the construction of the education network in Binh Dinh. Director of provincial Education and Training Department Tran Van Qui spoke with Ngoc Quynh about the issue.
- What is the significance of the event?
Internet has now become a tool as well as an endless source of knowledge. It’s Internet that changes our lifestyle and all fields, including the education and training sector. Information technology (IT) and Internet are now shortening the gap among areas, modernizing the country’s education.
The academic year 2008-2009 could be considered as a breakthrough for the education and training sector. On January 4, the Ministry of Education and Training has signed a contract with Viettel on expanding the education network. Under the agreement, the broad-band Internet will reach all schools nationwide.
This is a big project at the national magnitude, bringing many benefits to the education and training sector. In Binh Dinh. 676 educational units will be connected to the Internet in three phases. Viettel will try to finish the construction next year, one year earlier.
All are expected to be connected to the Internet by late 2009.
- What do you think about the IT application in schools? How will the department implement the academic year entitled “IT application academic year”?
Actually, some teachers, particularly those who teach in far and remote areas are not good at IT application.
To implement the project effectively, we will steer schools to apply the IT in each subjects. Teachers are encouraged to use electronic lesson plans, sharing experience of applying IT in teaching.
We will synchronously carry out the computerization of management and the upgrade of educational facilities.
All schools and educational units are required to effectively use the education network. This targets at the IT application and financial management in the education sector.
The IT application may include the change of methodology with E-learning technology, the development of multi-media school materials, and the construction of electronic lesson plans and exam questions banks.
