Increase the quantity, improve the quality

In 1993, Quy Nhon University cooperated with Ha Noi College of Natural Sciences to open an MA course for 15 students majoring in Mathematics. To this day it has opened some MA courses for other fields with the ever-increasing number of students.

Quy Nhon University plans to open some new courses for the fields of Vietnamese language, economics, and world history. Most MA students are those who are teachers and many of them continued attending PhD programs.

"We always focus on the training program and its contents to ensure their appropriateness for students of different majors. This helps them to improve their self-research," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Minh, deputy head of Department of undergraduate and graduate training.

MA students can choose one of three foreign languages, including English, Russian, and Chinese to study, let alone the computing which are taught to help them in their work.

Alongside the teaching staff, other leading professors working at Vietnam Institute of Mathematics and universities nationwide are also invited to teach new subjects, training young teachers.

The number of MA graduates hasn't met the demand of highly qualified staff in Binh Dinh. Quy Nhon University doesn't, however, value the quantity above quality in the graduate training.

Open PhD courses this year

"To open a PhD course, we must have at least five doctors in the same field with three or more associate professors playing the role as permanent lecturers. The number of doctors in Quy Nhon University is nearly 60, but only a few belong to one major. It's, therefore, difficult to expand the graduate training. But we are preparing all things to open some PhD courses this year," Assoc.Prof.Dr Minh said.

Quy Nhon University planned to invest in the infrastructure, reference material, labs, and library. Initially, PhD courses will be mainly opened for teachers and it is expected to include more fields relating to the socio-economic development in the near future.
