“The Global Action Week on Education for All” was launched by UNESCO, UNICEF and other NGOs in 120 countries. On this occasion, the world’s biggest lesson was held worldwide. It aimed to unite millions of children, teachers, parents and campaigners across the globe in their attempt to break the world record, and ensure everyone has an education. Politicians, officials and journalists will be taught, alongside children and parents, on Quality Education to End Exclusion.
An estimated 620 students, 72 teachers, and 60 celebrities took part in the world’s biggest lesson held at Quang Trung junior secondary school in Quy Nhon City on April 23 at 3 pm. In 30 minutes, the lesson was finished with questions and answers about different fields.
Participants then discussed what decides a quality education or non-quality education. These include the number of students in a class, textbooks, educational environment, and the quality of teaching staff.
The issue of local education and out-of-school children was also discussed in the lesson. After completing the lesson, representatives of Study Encouragement Society and local authorities signed a paper to confirm that the lesson broke the world Guinness records.
After the 30-minute-lesson, students, their parents, and celebrities shared opinions on education. Many questions were raised, such as: Do we have rights to choose a qualified and safe educational environment for my children? What did local authorities do to improve the educational environment?
Students asked for some advice because they have had to suffer so much pressure from their parents, their teachers, and the society.
Answering the first question, Deputy Head of Quy Nhon Education and Training Department, Tran Thi Thanh Truc, said that all schools in Quy Nhon City had qualified teachers. Chairman of Nguyen Van Cu Ward People’s Committee Nguyen Khac Minh affirmed that he knew many things from the world’s biggest lesson.
Many were interested in the launching of global lesson breaking the world Guinness records. But, more importantly, all students need specific actions for education as the UNESCO’s message said, “Act together for human rights education.”
