The campaign “Day for the poor” launched by Binh Dinh Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front is a significant campaign, helping the poor to overcome difficulties and improve their living standard.

To widely popularize the campaign in the whole society, all individuals, organizations, and businesses have been mobilized to respond to the campaign, contributing to build houses for the poor.

At residential areas, relatives and neighbors were also called on to help poor households by raising money or contributing a workday. Many residential areas have well carried out the campaign.

Relevant bodies and Departments cooperated with each other to hold an event named “Home for the poor”.  It invited donations from the public and VND5 billion was raised for the “Day for the poor” fund.

Binh Dinh Red Cross, Farmers’ Association as well as other associations combined the campaign with different activities, such as “The whole people united to build a cultured life in residential areas” campaign or the support for flood victims. This helped strengthen the great national unity bloc, reducing over 8,900 poor households.

At present, new houses were already built for the poor at six communes, wards, and towns, including An My, An Thanh, Tang Bat Ho (Hoai An District), Le Loi, Ly Thuong Kiet, and Nguyen Van Cu (Quy Nhon city).

The campaign also helped create jobs for more than 4,200 people. Job introduction centers aided thousands of people in finding new jobs, contributing to the poverty-alleviation movement.

Local authorities and functional bodies mobilized all people and organizations to respond to the campaign through practical activities like helping policy families, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and dioxin/agent orange.

The target of building 2,000 new houses for the poor and reducing poor households in 2008 will become feasible thanks to such mentioned activities.
