The first Tay Son – Binh Dinh Festival 2008 closed with the ceremony held on August 3. Many festivities ended but it has still left an impression on those participating in the event. From now, there will be many things done for the development of Binh Dinh in the future.
* A festival with many Vietnamese records
During three days of the festival, people were jubilant at participating in activities taking place in Quy Nhon and Districts. A grand memorial service dedicated to Vietnam’s National Hero Nguyen Hue took place at Quang Trung Museum, drawing the interest of thousands of local and foreign visitors. The grand memorial service was not only the offerings of flowers and incense to King Quang Trung and Tay Son insurgent army for their merit but an opportunity to experience valuable lessons, said Secretary of Binh Dinh provincial Party Committee Vu Hoang Ha.
The service held in King Quang Trung’s hero featured Binh Dinh’s cultural values; meanwhile, the art performance in the opening ceremony showed the spread of Tay Son spirit nationwide.

The 2nd international festival of Vietnamese traditional martial arts closed with the theme of “peace, friendship, and solidarity for the preservation and development of Vietnamese traditional martial arts.” The festival with the participation of 108 delegations was recognized as the biggest festival of traditional martial arts by Vietnam Record Book Center.
Performances at the festival were highly appreciated thanks to impressive techniques. Thousands of students performing in the opening and closing ceremonies helped show the sporting spirit, praising the country’s changes and development.
The nigh festival of flower garlands and colored lanterns was one of festivities attracting scores of people regardless of heavy rain. Many people traveled by boats to enjoy the night festival, creating a unique feature for the festival.
Tay Son – Binh Dinh Festival 2008 was held basing on distinctive cultural and historical values. It features Tuong (Vietnamese classical drama) art and Binh Dinh’s land and people through the Miss Martial Lands pageant, Cham dances, and the nigh of poems and music.
The art performance taking place under the statue of King Quang Trung was a recall of King Quang Trung’s merit. Thousands of people came here to enjoy the show.
* Festival of the people
Another record contributing to the success of Tay Son – Binh Dinh Festival was the number of participants. All festivities attracted a crowd of people including farmers coming to the city and visitors flocking to Binh Dinh for the first time. Thanks to the festival, tourists were able to know more about beauties of the land of martial arts.
“I had participated in many festivals, but I was impressed by the festival held in Binh Dinh for the first time, particularly the opening ceremony. All clearly showed the theme of the festival,” said Kha, a local person.
“This is the first time I came to Binh Dinh and hoped to come back many times. Binh Dinh’s people are very polite and friendly. What I liked most is Xuan Dieu Street and traditional dishes in Binh Dinh. The opening ceremony of international festival of Vietnamese traditional martial arts was really impressive,” said an Italian tourist.
It is the response of local people and the contribution of entrepreneurs that made the festival become more successful. Tay Son – Binh Dinh Festival 2008 actually became a festival for people and of people.
* Festival for development
The success of the festival is expected to be a driving force for the tourism development and investment cooperation in different fields in Binh Dinh. At a meeting with provincial leaders, many entrepreneurs expressed their hopes to aid Binh Dinh in the trade promotion and socio-economic development.
Specialties and traditional products displayed at the culinary and craft village festival were also highlights during three days of the festival. Tours to Quang Trung museum, ancient towers, and beautiful landscapes will play a core role in attracting investors.
Tay Son – Binh Dinh Festival 2008 with the theme “Converging and developing” was successfully held, becoming a breakthrough for the development of Binh Dinh in the future.
