Vietnam gets high rate of hepatitis B

Vietnam Liver and Gall Association held the 4th national liver and gall seminar in Quy Nhon city on August 23-24.

The hepatitis B was a medical and social issue. It had a high rate of infection in the community with various complications, said Chairman of Vietnam Liver and Gall Association, Ha Van Mao.

Statistics showed that the rate of hepatitis B in Vietnam (10-20 percent) is higher than other countries (5-10 percent), Mao said.

The transmission of hepatitis B virus includes unprotected sexual contact, blood transfusions, re-use of contaminated needles & syringes, and vertical transmission from mother to child.

Also, participants talked about other issues relating to the liver and gall.
