After the typhoon Ketsana, which smashed into Vietnam late on Tuesday, had ended, local authorities and functional bodies in Binh Dinh have been urgently making all-out efforts to deal with the aftermath of the tropical storm.

Severe damage
The tropical storm Ketsana slammed into central province of Binh Dinh in Oct. 28-29, leaving 6 dead, 3 missing, and 29 injured. Wind speeds of 118-149kmh and torrential rain brought devastation to the whole province.
About 2 people have died, 9 people have been injured, 110 houses with at least 4 boats were damaged or submerged, and 3,148 hectares of rice fields and other crops were destroyed in Hoai Nhon district during the storm.
In An Nhon district, the typhoon left 3 injured, let alone 950 hectares of rice fields destroyed, over 500 houses damaged and dozens of roads left impassable.
Rice, noodles, and relief have been provided for victims in the areas where the storm has wrecked havoc, said Chairman of An Nhon district’s People’s Committee Tran Chau.
Those whose houses were collapsed will be offered VND3 million to build new ones and VND500,000 will be given to the injured, he added.
The weather is now better and the district’s functional bodies are mobilizing soldiers and rescue and aid workers to help people in isolated areas.
The local Red Cross and charities have visited and offered relief aid to those who live in the storm-hit areas.
Phu Cat district also suffered severe consequences caused by the typhoon. Reports said that 3 people died, 3 were injured, many houses were damaged, and 3,900 hectares of rice fields was seriously destroyed.
The district’s functional bodies and local authorities visited and gave aid to some households, aiming to help them overcome the typhoon aftermath, according to Vo Duc Tho, an official of Phu Cat district’s People’s Committee.
At present, all localities are focusing on preventing outbreaks of diseases in the storm’s aftermath while also resuming production and repairing schools.
Urgent measures
After the storm had ended, the province’s leaders steered functional bodies and local authorities to take urgent measures to overcome the typhoon aftermath.
The local authorities were asked to give aid to all cases by offering victims food, temporary accommodation, and seeds for new crops.
The locals were mobilized to harvest, repair schools and irrigation works, and prepare drugs for preventing outbreaks of diseases.
On Sept.30, the province’s Vice Chairmen Le Huu Loc and Ho Quoc Dung went on inspection tours about efforts dealing with the aftermath of the tropical storm in districts of Phu Cat, An Nhon, Tay Son, Phu My, and Hoai Nhon.
Visiting victims and their families, provincial leaders extended the deepest condolences to the all the families of the victims who were bereaved of their beloved ones, hoping that they would overcome the tragic consequences of the floods and storm.
The province’s leaders asked the local authorities to mobilized all forces to help people overcome severe consequences. The branch of Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam in Binh Dinh also offered VND3 million to families whose members died in the storm.
“The district visited people living in the storm-hit areas and used the local budget to aid them,” said Chairman of Hoai Nhon district People’s Committee Truong Cong Tinh. “Soldiers and young people also helped them repair houses, schools, and harvest.”
