Wearing “green shirt”, a symbol of voluntary spirit, many women officials of Youth Unions of all levels have done a lot of voluntary work with great enthusiasm.
We met Dinh Thi Minh Ket, the former secretary of An Lao district’s Youth Union, again when her hair has gone grey. When being a secretary, she had to overcome many difficulties to do all hard work.
She used to live in far and remote areas for the whole week, aiming to help the locals improve their living standard.
“My life was really tough at that time,” Ket recalled. “I had to live with them for a long time so as to persuade them to leave mountains and help them settle a new life.”
Assigned different positions, she was still impressed with the role as the secretary of the district’s Youth Union. Like other women leaders, Ket worked very hard with all-out efforts to contribute to the country’s development.
She now has favorable conditions to fulfill her tasks, but it still requires her strength and enthusiasm to work.
Joining the “entrance exam aid” program for five years, Huynh Thi San, secretary of Dieu Tri town’s Youth Union, mobilized many people to offer free accommodation to contestants.
Once, she allowed 20 students to temporarily live in her house during an exam; whilst, she was continuously travelling between Dieu Tri Station and Tuy Phuoc junior high school to help other students.
At present, 47 of 285 Youth Union officials in Binh Dinh are women, accounting for 16.5 percent. Many got married, having children, but they still strive to overcome difficulties to fulfill their tasks. Their all-out efforts must be, therefore, honoured.
Huynh Thanh Phong, secretary of Phuoc Nghia commune’s Youth Union, once led a group of people and came to Tho Nghia hamlet which was separated by floods for one week to offer them relief aid.
“Although I’m a woman, I get familiar with hard work relating to the flood prevention because I live in the flood-hit area,” Phong said. “My work seems harder in the rainy season, but I could fortunately share with my family.”
We couldn’t list here all women leaders who are young pioneers of the youth in the central province of Binh Dinh. However, all of them have something in common- that is, they have Vietnamese women’s characters.
They could live and work for all despite their age and always fulfill their tasks.
