The flood caused severe damage for many businesses in Binh Dinh. Many of them have had to stop their operation since then. As a result, thousands of workers are now facing the risk of joblessness.

Businesses suffer damage
According to the province’s Economic Zones Authority, companies in Phu Tai industrial park lost nearly VND300 billion due to the flood. Most of them had to stop operating and workers must be off work without being paid.
Coming to Hiep Phat Co., Ltd on November 10, we saw many workers moving the flooded products out of the warehouse. The others were tidying up the factories and offices.
It will take several weeks for the company to operate again. At present, more than 100 workers are staying at home.
Other timber exporters, such as Viet Anh, Duc Toan, and Nhu Y are now in the same boat. The flood destroyed most of their facilities. Duc Toan Co., Ltd lost nearly VND10 billion and Nhu Y Co., Ltd also suffered the serious flood damage.
Businesses in Quang Trung industrial zone were also flooded, making them stop operating for a long time.
Fear of being unemployed
Not only businesses but their workers are the flood victims. Thousands of workers must be off work and don’t know when they could return to work.
Alongside this, their houses in flood-hit areas were also destroyed by the flood. They therefore, hope they will be able to work soon to stabilize their life.
Tran Thi Trinh, whose house was flooded, is working at a company in Quang Trung industrial zone. After the flood she went to the company and knew it had to stop operation for four months. “I had no money to buy food and book for my children,” she said. “There is no job now.”
Nguyen Thi Lanh, a worker of Viet Anh Co., Ltd said her company had to lay off its workers for one month. She is really worried how her family could live because all depend on her salary.
Despite serious damage, some businesses have been overcoming the flood aftermath, aiming to meet their customers’ orders in time and create jobs for their workers.
Director of Nhu Y Co., Ltd, Nguyen Van An, said the company mobilized 150 of 300 workers to tidy up the offices and clean the products and raw material. This will help them earn extra income. Also, the company coordinated with its permanent partners to help workers.
250 workers of Duc Toan Co., Ltd joined to clean its warehouses during these days. “We only hope the company will soon operate again so that we could work to earn money,” said Nguyen Thi Kieu Trang, one of its workers.
Duc Toan Co., Ltd director Pham Van Bang said all workers received the October’s salary when returning to work, aiming to help them to aid their families.
Le Thi Trang, a worker of Duc Toan Company, happily said she bought rice as soon as receiving her salary. Her family had had to eat instant noodle in the past few days.
However, many businesses haven’t still recovered their production after the flood and thousands of workers are facing the risk of joblessness.
