The province’s Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs has coordinated with Vietnam’s Association for supporting Disabled Persons and Quy Nhon Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Center to offer medical test to 632 disabled people in Phu Cat District. As a result, 137 were selected to receive the orthopedic surgery.
The “Supporting disabled people and Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims” project aims to rehabilitate disabled people, particularly children and AO/dioxin victims.
The project also targets at helping the disabled to integrate into the community, improving qualifications in rehabilitation for the disabled and the support of their relatives and medical staff.
In Phu Cat District, the project coordination board opened a training course for 40 freelances in 10 communes and towns benefiting from the project.
Then, 882 disabled people were selected for the classification test. Also, they will be aided with social and health services in the community.
In two day (April 24-25), doctors of Quy Nhon Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Center offered medical test to 632 disabled people, including 151 children, at the health stations.
After the test, 137 were chosen for the orthopedic surgery. Apart from this, 156 were offered false hands and legs.
The project coordination board also kicked off the rehabilitation center construction in Cat Tan commune and upgraded another center in Cat Hung commune.
Two centers are expected to be full operational by middle-July. Their functions are to provide services for disabled people in the commune.
The centers also plan to build day-boarding program for 15 disabled children, aiming to help them soon integrate into the community.
Another pilot program of the project is the at-home services. Parents having disabled children will use their own houses to help them practice with the assistance of freelances.
The project also focused on rehabilitation services and policies for disabled people in localities.
