When the summer comes, thousands of young people are eager to join the 2009 volunteer summer campaign from May 31 to August 31. Caretaker secretary of the province’s Youth Union, Ha Van Cat, talks more about the issue.
What has the province’s Youth Union done to enhance the volunteer summer campaign this year?
This year’s campaign will focus on eight main programs. In the “Coming to far and remote areas” program, volunteers will help ethnic minority groups in 3 mountainous and 2 midland districts.
Also, 15 volunteer groups will come to 32 mountainous and disadvantaged communes in the province.
The Youth Union’s affiliates will strengthen other gratitude activities, preserving the landscapes at martyrs’ cemeteries and historical and cultural vestiges.
Volunteers are expected to help weak and out-of-school students, encouraging them return to the schools. Many events will be held in the “entrance exam aid” program when the July’s exam takes place in Binh Dinh.
In the “environment protection” program, Youth Union members will collect garbage and focus on raising the community’s awareness of afforestation and flood prevention.
The Youth Union’s affiliates will hold summer activities at residential areas in the “Enjoying summer with children” program, aiming to popularize laws on child care, education, and protection and help disabled, underprivileged, and AO/dioxin children integrate into the community.
The Standing Board of the province’s Youth Union will also coordinate with relevant bodies to offer vocational training and job opportunities to young people.
In the “traffic safety” program, volunteers will help traffic police keep the traffic order under control at junctions, particularly during graduation and university entrance exams…
What are your experiences in making voluntary activities effective?
The 2009 volunteer summer campaign will be widely held with various activities, meeting the demand for socio-economic development in localities.
The Youth Union’s affiliates should strengthen the coordination with local authorities and relevant bodies to create favorable conditions for the Youth Union members to join the campaign.
Activities need holding under particular issues, such as “the youth with occupation” and “the youth act for social welfare”.
The youth volunteer campaign not only focuses on socio-economic issues but aims to raise the people’s awareness of the issues.
To effectively operate activities, the Youth Union’s affiliates must carefully prepare all necessary conditions for the campaign, aiming to attract the Youth Union member to join the event and get support from the community.
