A centre which will serve as a place where young researchers and experienced scientists meet and exchange knowledge will be built in the sea city of Quy Nhon in Binh Dinh province. The centre will be built and run by the scientific organisation of Professor Tran Thanh Van.

On June 25, 2009, at the 21st The Rencontres de Blois held in France, Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, Deputy Chairwoman of the Binh Dinh People’s Committee, introduced the project on building the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Scientific Meetings before 200 physicists of 20 nationalities, including six Nobel laureates.

The Rencontres de Blois are international conferences which have been organised for a number of years in the city of Blois, in France, and have covered topics ranging from particle physics to chaos theory, life and planetary science.

The centre, which is expected to cover an area of 100,000 square metres, will include one 200-seat meeting hall, three other meeting halls, 5-10 workrooms and reception rooms, one 3-star hotel with 60 rooms and restaurants, a swimming pool and café.

The centre is expected to become operational in 2011.

Professor Tran Thanh Van, Chairman of The Rencontres de Blois, said that at the centre, young researchers and famous scientists, who have deep knowledge and experience, will be able to meet each other and exchange knowledge and ideas in a quiet atmosphere among the forest and the sea.

Why choose Vietnam for the centre? Because, Van said, Vietnam is located at the intersection of many routes in the Asia-Pacific belt. Vietnam has been opening its doors more and more widely to other countries, and is willing to cooperate with developed countries. Vietnam has also successfully organised a lot of big science conferences at the regional and world levels.

Vietnam is also a country of young talents. A lot of Vietnamese students have won gold, silver and bronze medals at international Olympiads. Many have attended world-famous universities in France, US, UK, Russia, Germany and Japan, where they have had excellent learning and research results. The scientific talents of Vietnamese youth have been recognised by many developed countries.

At The Rencontres de Blois, with its prestige in the scientific community, Professor Van called on the physicists to support Vietnam by organising or attending scientific meetings in Quy Nhon city and giving lectures at universities in Vietnam.
