About 88 thousands students have come to the central province of Binh Dinh to take the university entrance exams this year. They come from provinces of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, and Quang Binh and Central Highlands region.

It took one week for Nguyen Thi Bich Hoa, vice chairwoman of Ghenh Rang ward’s People’s Committee, to tidy up a rooms in her house, aiming to offer accommodation to some poor candidates.

Vo Thi Tho, an official of Ghenh Rang ward, also provided two free rooms for 10-12 students. “I reminded volunteers to phone me when receiving any disadvantaged or ethnic minority candidates,” she said.

The maritime safety guarantee factory had four air conditioners installed in its hall used as free accommodation for 60-70 candidates.

“I used to be a poor students who had to live far from home, so I understand their situations,” the factory’s manager Doan Hai Au said.

Hundreds of families in Nhon Phu, Nhon Binh, and Tuy Phuoc have also provided free accommodation for poor candidates.

“Like our children, any student is like a fish out of water when leaving home for the first time,” said Le Thi, a resident in Nhon Binh ward.

“On the way to Quy Nhon, my son and I wondered if we could find any cheap room which is near the exam venue,” said a candidate’s father. “We were really happy when volunteers helped us to rent a room at Quy Nhon University’s dormitory.”

Residential areas around Quy Nhon University saw many cheap rented rooms. Tam, a teacher, also has five 20 sq.m rooms for rent. “Rooms here are rented for VND5,000 per person only because they are poor students,” she said. “I help them as my children.”

Huynh Van Dung, living in Tuy Phuoc district, offered free accommodations to four students coming from Quang Nam province. This is the eighth years his house has become free accommodation for candidates who take entrance exams in Binh Dinh.

“My house is quite large, but there are only my wife and I, so I received 10 candidates to temporarily live with us,” Pham Thi Minh, whose house is in Binh Dinh town, said. “My children were also provided with free accommodation when they took entrance exams in Sai Gon 10 years ago.”
