Economy grows, social welfare stable

The 15th session of the Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Council opened in Quy Nhon city yesterday (July 13), evaluating the province’s socio-economic situation in the first six moths and tasks in the following months.

Le Huu Loc, Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Committee, presented a report on the issues after the opening speech delivered by Secretary of provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of provincial People’s Council, Vu Hoang Ha.

Report said that the province’s socio-economic situation has considerably grown in the first six months. The local GDP increased by 8.3 percent. Also, other social and cultural activities have been improved and the security and public order are kept stable.

However, the first six month’s growth rate was 2.5 percent lower than the same period last year, including 11.1 percent rise in agriculture-forest-aquatic products, 5.1 percent increase in industry-construction, and 7.7 percent surge in services.

Representatives of provincial bodies and agencies also presented reports on many urgent issues, such as the proposal for developing economy to fast and sustainably reduce poverty in districts of Van Canh, Vinh Thanh, and An Lao by 2009-2020, the urban planning of Bong Son and An Nhon, the overall plan of solid waste management in urban and industrial zones until 2020, and housing for poor people project.

The provincial People’s Council would spend much time talking the issues and appropriate solutions, aiming to curb difficulties and maintain the growth rate, said Ha.
